The Washington Post reports:
President-elect Barack Obama will nominate former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk to be U.S. trade representative, a source familiar with decision said on Thursday.
Obama is expected to make the announcement on Friday in Chicago, the source said.
So what are Kirk's views on trade issues? I've seen some very pro-NAFTA statements he made back when he was Mayor of Dallas. But his position is very different now, and times have changed, so presumably he will be saying different things. As already noted, Ben Muse reported on some critical statements he made more recently. I think it's safe to say that his views on trade are going to be pretty similar to Obama's. What exactly are Obama's views? We have some clues, but we'll have to wait on the details.
